Psst..In conjunction with Budak Lurpak entry, here, on her preparation for upcoming Ramadhan, I'm here to talk on my past and upcoming Ramadhans. .
.
.
I love Ramadhan.
And as far as I could remember, I always had to serve Ramadhan without my family (except during primary school years and below) since I was school-boarded as early as 13 years old.(I didn't' even know that I am supposed to wash, iron and fold my own clothes during that time)
My first Ramadhan without my family was at MRSM Kuala Klawang and it was not bad at all.All of us were divided into homerooms and we got to break sawm in each homeroom.
We alternately hidang the food for our homeroom members, and the boys were the ones with lazy asses. hehe (kan Mimah kan?) hehe And for my homeroom, there would always be the cases where "nasik tertumpah lah, air jatuh la, gaduh la" hehe it' was a normal thing back then. The most memorable one was the part when the whole of us waiting to break the sawm. During that period, pakcik DS [Dewan Selera] would play the radio, and there would be many kind of radio adverts on kurma, minyak, etc2.. hehe
Later, all of us would perform Tarawikh at our basic surau ( a simple surau with no walls hehe) and went to prep. Tarawikh at this surau was different as compared to any other suraus I've been after that. The ambient while performing the solats was different. I still can recalled the feeling but yet failed in re-invented it.
I was there for 2 or 3 Ramadhans, (I really can't recall this), then I'd to moved to MRSM Muar. There, we didn't have to break sawm in our homeroom. We were free to sit around and eat hehe. and I only had one sahur during my 2 Ramadhans there hehe I was too lazy to wake up and always missed sahur.
The food in MRSM Muar were heaven! Heaven! Heaven!! I missed DS's chicken rice, briyani, western food, drooolinggg..
After SPM, I went to University Teknologi PETRONAS, and had 4,5 Ramadhans there.
And during my first year with PETRONAS R&T, I was posted to Bintulu, Sarawak and it was the worst Ramadhan experience. My life was hectic with the project, with the environment, the people, with the project, have I mentioned abt the project before? Bintulu exp was a one kind of life exp.
So, now here I am, in Singapore, with hubby and Adam. Phew!
This year is our first Ramadhan as a whole family. Alhamdulilah and we're all in Singapore!! Yippee..!!
I guess Ramadhan would slightly be different since there are less param here. And the food here are more/less the same with Indo/Johorean food but wayyyy different from Malacca/KL food. I never heard of Ayam Penyet, Daging Dendeng, Nasi Ambang, sambal goreng, before. Still, I have no problem putting it all in my tummy hehe
The point is since I'm a jobless woman with a one year old toddler,[not that busy kunun], my family will expect me to cook a decent meal for sahur and bukak pose..So, I have to carefully plan for the break-sawm-meals. There should be at least a traditional /western kuih, 2,3 lauk-pauks and air best. And as hubby alias my food critic said, from 10 meals that I've prepared, only 7 were sukses sukses. T_T
cubaan membuat marble cheese brownies dr Mat Gebu [the cheese layer is too thin kan?]
Furtherrmore, as a first time domestic goddess, hehe, I'd to plan for the kueh raya... Pelik tau surirumahtangga tak buat kueh raya T_T.. no lah, actually, I always wanted to prepare my own kuih raya, but I was too busy coping up with works and last year I was in pantang. T_T So this year is the year to tunjuk bakat.. hopefully, kuih jadik and takyah main tunjuk2 kat kedai.. hehe
So, this Ramadhan is going to be the busiest Ramadhan ever. Plus, I'm going back to my mom's house this Weekend to start preparing (sewing) my house curtain, table cloth, cushion covers, you named it hehe Hopefully, every plan I've planned work out smoothly.. Ameen..
How about you guys? Baju Raya dah tempah? ;)
Hmm.. we could not re-invent our childhood memories now, but the least we could do is to re-create it for our kids..I really miss sahur and bukak puasa time with Mak and Ayah.. time really flies kan?
